On October 20, 2024, the Lake Norman High School Band Program hosted a community concert to benefit the areas of Western NC impacted by Hurricane Helene. We invited students from other schools in the area, as well as alumni and other local musicians, to join us in the LNHS stadium to perform six pieces of music specially chosen for this event. The approximately 130 participating musicians ranged from 6th graders to retirees and 17 different schools were represented! Admission was by donation and we also collected clothing and hygiene kits to send to those in need. It was a beautiful afternoon filled with the sounds of music being played by an ensemble that had never fully rehearsed together (though you would never know it)! It was truly amazing to see the community come together to show support for our Western neighbors!

Donation Beneficiary
We selected Samaritan’s Purse, a 501(c)(3) organization based in Boone, NC, as the recipient of all proceeds from this event. This decision was made based on the organization’s 100% finance and accountability rating. They have been actively providing relief in various counties in Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee since September 30th. They know the needs of the victims and we feel confident that the monies raised will be used responsibly in a way to best benefit our western neighbors. Donations
Through this event, we were able to raise over $5,800 to send to Samaritan's Purse! Thank you so much to everyone who attended and gave so generously!

We also partnered with the Mooresville Kindness Closet and collected over 50 hygiene kits for distribution to those in Western NC. This will be an ongoing need for the foreseeable future, so continued donations of these kits is greatly appreciated! Please see the flyer below for instructions on how to put kits together and where they can be dropped off once assembled.
